*Abstract:*

Iberian and American contemporary states share a common history that has
been extensively studied by historical archaeologists. However, the
Atlantic Ocean can be regarded as a metaphor for the customary separation
between those regions in this sub-field of archaeology. With this session
we intend to critically examine recent social and theoretical trajectories
of historical archaeology among Ibero-American archaeologies, to discuss
its current endeavors and possible ways of international cooperation.
