During this summer's excavation at Michilimackinac we found three lead
seals, two of which we had not seen before.

The first is a Series A lead seal stamped:
VIALET
   C
...ONTAVEA
   W
on one side and scratched:
31-3/4
3"99
on the other.

The second is a Series C,
stamped D.S.S.&A. on one side and 23 on the other. Both sides have a
speckled background.

The context is a fur trader's house, but mixed (1781 - 1929) deposit, the
result of grading.

Can anyone identify any of these marks? There are photos available at
<http://archaeoseek.ning.com/photo/albums/ms2-2009-lead-seals>. I can also
e-mail them on request. Thanks in advance
