I understand that some people encourage the production of drone cells to combat a varroa infestation since the mites much prefer to populate a drone cell when compared with workers. Removing the capped drone cells also removes the mites.
Does anyone know why mites act in this way? Are mites attracted to a drone pheromone or is it the larger cell size?
