Pete, I just looked at the abstract of that study, and don't know that it
necessarily applies to Allen's observation, since the study (as far as I
could tell) didn't pertain to degree of foraging, but rather only the
choice of constant vs. variable-reward flowers.
It seems to me as well that colonies lacking in stores are far more
agitated than those with heavy stores. Can you find any more studies? This
would be an easy one for Jerry to test with his bee counter and hive scales!
