Some have said the idea was to get funding. Wouldn't the CCD team be able to
tell if those hives had died from high varroa load.
Maybe not?

beekeepers are always blamed when researchers can't figure out what
happened.
beekeepers did not benefit from CCD. The research community had millions
tossed their way.
Accountability never happens in Washington or in government agencies in my
opinion.
