"Connecting People to Science," the conference which is the centerpiece of the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, opens for on-site registration on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Tremont Plaza Hotel in Baltimore. The conference takes place Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 1 - 3, with the opening reception at the nearby Maryland Science Center on Sunday evening, July 31, and will include workshops, panels, oral and poster presentations related to education and public outreach in space and earth science. Speakers and programs at this meeting include:
* Best-selling author and science policy commentator Chris Mooney
* America's favorite public astronomer, Neil deGrasse Tyson
* An evening of the latest science results from the Hubble Space Telescope
* An update on funding opportunities for science education
* A session on the next set of national and state science standards, now in development
* A series of panels and workshops on programs for engaging girls in science and math education
* Workshops on how to do innovative evaluation of science outreach programs outside the classroom
* Dozens of other presentations of direct interest to those working at all levels and all settings of science education.
 
The conference welcomes scientists, educators of all types, communicators, policy-makers, and anyone with an interest in science, education and outreach. Everyone is welcome to register and participate in the learning and networking which have characterized this meeting for decades.
