Peter, there are sublethal effects of even touching a hive--you can hear
the bees immediately roar. And I'm not going to even go into all the
sublethal effects of actually pumping smoke into a hive.
My point: everything about beekeeping is a function of cost/benefit. My
colonies thrive much better when I use oxalic dribble (we treated 300 hives
yesterday) than when I don't.
