Hi Anne,

When I worked at the Museum of Scientific Discovery in Harrisburg, PA, we had a facility called the Discovery Bar which was totally devoted to intimate demonstrations. One demo we assembled was a complete electricity/magnetism presentation. It started with an AC coil causing an aluminum ring to jump high in the air, to a show of eddy currents slowing various swinging pieces of metal to an electromagnet (to show that changing an an electric field produces a magnetic field) to a magnet thrust through a coil attached to a ammeter (to show the reverse) and ending with dropping a magnet through an aluminum pipe It was an extremely popular demonstration, and, as people could come and go as they pleased, it could be made to flow very seamlessly from the end back to the beginning, to start all over again for newcomers. Sometimes we would go around three or four times in one session.

Good day, all. We are in the process of creating some experiences for guests
round magnetism here at the museum in the next few weeks. I'd like to ask for
ome of your favorite magnetism experiences on a couple levels.
Level 1: simple, elegant, cheap and with easy to acquire materials for a quick
urn around into a hands-on exhibit space.
Level 2: if we want to create more permanent experiences, what has worked well
t your institutions?
Best,
nne
