I put out Disco Boxes (as we call them) when our science counter is not staffed. They are meant for the visitors to explore on their own, and they work pretty well. Right now, I've got Shells, Rocks, Magnets, Building with Craft Sticks, and Exploring Patterns (with those little rubbery bright colored counters--I have the animal shape ones.)
When the counter is staffed, the boxes are put away under the counter.

Hello,
Does anybody know if there is a place (or you are willing to share) materials lists/directions for Discovery Boxes? I know they have these at the Ithaca Science Center, and I'm guessing that many of your institutions have these as well. (As far as I understand the box contains related materials for a topic such as "exploring magnetism" with a list of things or directions for how you might go about investigating). Are there any websites devoted to such things?
