I would melt crayons, chocolate or wax. People have often heard the phrase 'Hot enough to cook an egg on the sidewalk', (or something like that). Why not explore how hot it has to be in order to melt other solids? Or how long different substances take to melt?

Melting dry ice is sublime (one good pun deserves more)

Good afternoon all. I'm so grateful for this group of museum
colleagues in hot spots all over the country.

Next week, as part of a Cool Science Festival here at the museum, we are
hosting a little "event" called Afternoon Melt-Down, where we literally
invite guests to watch stuff melt on the front steps of the Museum.
Popsicles, salty water pops and ice balloons are all obvious
contestants, but I wanted to poll the network group to see if there are
other things I need to consider that melt in interesting ways.

Thanks in advance for your help and stay cool!

Anne
