JOB DESCRIPTION FOR POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN DIASPORA STUDIES
Job Description

The department of Anthropology, University of Maryland, anticipates hiring
a two-year post-doctoral fellow for August 2012. Qualifications include a
recently awarded doctoral degree in anthropology with specialization in
diaspora theory and demonstrated potentially innovative research
capability. It is also expected that extramural support will be developed,
either singly or in collaboration with current faculty and staff.
Candidates must demonstrate an active research agenda with publications,
field experience, and teaching excellence.

Candidates are encouraged to apply whose research focuses on immigration,
health disparities, social and political consequences of migration,
quality of life, the issues related to social justice, and the ideologies
of race and racism. A focus on underserved populations is important.
Successful applicants must show a strong theoretical and methodological
focus that complements existing faculty research.  Geographic area and
subdiscipline is open.

The candidate is expected to teach one course a semester in his/her area
of interest at the undergraduate to graduate levels, as well as
established courses. The candidate is also expected to work
collaboratively with faculty in the department, college, and/or university
to advance the fellow’s research agenda. Compensation is a twelve month
appointment for one year renewal up to two years at $45,000/year with
benefits plus $5,000 each year for research support.
