Seems like a marketing scam to me. All bees 'free range' when foraging
(except the ones that we trick into searching for things). That central
foraging area or 'range' extends around the location of tree, hive, pot, or
basket housing the bee population.
I guess one might argue that hives moved by beekeepers 'limit' the FREE
range, since a person is making the decision of where the bees are going to
forage.
One might consider FERAL colonies to be free ranging, since they freely
choose their home and forage area, but harvesting honey from natural
colonies in trees, etc. is usually destructive, both to the 'tree or house' and to
the bees themselves. Doubt that destructive harvesting would be a big
selling point at a Farmer's Market.
