Well, I would think that in knowing how to compare capacity of one to another for critical mass of workers being produced you then have basic estimate needs seen for what to add/do for hive honey getting/pollen production. 

For critical mass of bees varies by size of frames, along with size of cells contained in a given area. So if it takes one cell honey to one cell pollen to one equivalent cell of water to make one bee, then you caculate that per each type equipment looked at along with size of cells which can expand or contract what equipment needed, and then you calculate how many workers, and equipment needed for broodnest duties plus surplus production......but just me thinking here.
