Those of you interested in the relationship between weather and the flow of the polar jet will enjoy this primer. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's geared towards understandability. Clearly the weather is a complex event, but we've come to understand some of the major forcing functions and long term trends. We may never come to forecast with high precision, but the overall drivers are becoming clearer. This essay makes a good presentation of what we know.
