ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

All,

As you may know, the Afterschool Alliance's "Lights On Afterschool" event, which has been celebrated every October since 2000, is fast approaching. On October 18, children, parents, grandparents, educators, community leaders, policy
makers, celebrities, and others will come together to show their support for essential afterschool programs. Participants will once again gather at schools, community centers, parks, malls, state capitols - and science centers and museums! - to rally for the programs that help working families, keep kids safe, and inspire them to learn as part of the 13th annual "Lights On Afterschool." Since its inception, this nationwide rally for afterschool has grown to include more than 7,500 events across the country and at U.S. military bases worldwide. "Lights On Afterschool" is the only nationwide rally for afterschool programs, and ASTC is delighted to serve as one of more than 200 National Partners for the event.

Need further proof that momentum is building for this year's "Lights On Afterschool?" This week, the U.S. Senate passed a bi-partisan resolution recognizing "Lights On Afterschool" celebrations and the importance of afterschool programs to kids, parents, and communities. Join Congress, your fellow science centers and museums, and 1 million Americans in celebrating the 13th annual "Lights On Afterschool."

If your institution hasn't already registered to be a part of this year's event, now is the perfect time to do so. In fact, if you sign up by October 3, your program could win a Skype session with Joan Higginbotham, the third African American woman to go into space! Celebrations don't need to be complex, and some of the most valuable don't take a lot of time, money, or resources. Great ideas can be found online, as can answers to all of your questions.
