Dear Colleagues,
I am hoping to organize a session for the 2016 SHA conference on the archaeology of cemeteries and commemoration. It is tentatively titled:
“Spirits of the Dead”: Historical Archaeologies of Cemeteries and Commemoration
The title is drawn from a poem of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. The session is dedicated to current research on the archaeology of cemeteries and commemoration. Paper should highlight new research and/or new perspectives on mortuary archaeology. Papers dealing with gravemarkers, commemoration, cemetery landscapes, and the archaeology of memory are particularly welcome.
If you are interested in participating please contact me off list.
All the best,
Rich Veit
