I responded almost a year ago, pointing out that the Jefferson quote in Mr. Parkhill's sig.file is not considered genuine according to the researchers and librarians at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello. They have an entry on spurious Jefferson quotes here:

http://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/spurious-quotes

If you want to express your own opinions or beliefs in your sig. file, go ahead (knowing that others may respond in kind), but, as a history professional, please verify your sources. If you have a citation for this quote I'd be happy to pass it along to the people at Monticello.

By the way, quoting Jefferson (who listed authorship of Virginia's statute of religious freedom as one of three accomplishments in his epitaph) next to the Reagan quote about one nation under God, is a bit ironic.
