I've done my share of force feeding imidacloprid and other products to
insects, in a University research lab, and wonder where all these
Bayer/Syngenta-compromised researchers exist! Rather than compromising
results, there is pressure to produce quality experimental design and
data that can be reproduced.
Yet, it's common knowledge that many beekeepers use off-label products
(I personally love the common in-hive use of a well known lipophilic
product for SHB, wooboy!!) , disregard standards and rules, yet are
regarded as victims in all this.
The truth exists somewhere, and I wonder if critical thinking is now
extinct.
Fwiw, I believe the imid fx are minimal in all this mess. Generally,
Hymenoptera bounce back quickly after treatments. House flies required
a tightening of knockdown/mortality definitions, as many would arise
after being counted 'dead' (when is dead, dead??). Such behavior caused
quite a ruckus in pest control as well, as one might well imagine.
