Actually, the discussion of intentionality in evolution is critical. It is not merely semantic nitpicking. Would you say it was a semantic argument whether an individual was shot by _someone_ or just got hit by a bullet that happened to come out of that gun. Intentionality determines whether its murder or a tragic accident. Did nature worry about endless cloning and suddenly decide to invent sex? Or did sex evolve over eons as a very good way to recombine genetic material, which may lead to adaptation over time. It certainly isn't the only way and has multiple risks and flaws as a system.
