Over the past 5 years, I have noticed that more people in my town of Santa Barbara are taking notice of the plight of the honeybee. They want to become a "recreational beekeeper" (Love this new beekeeper category). We have moved from "nuking the bees" (Vector Control policy) to "saving the bees".
Result... more beekeepers are on local local swarm/removal referral lists and more people are showing up to my brief public presentations (Earth Day).
So..... as a result of this trend, after 30+years of beekeeping, I am in transition from bee removal services (too old to climb ladders) to one of bee education and mentoring the next generation of beekeepers who might be dancing to the tune: "Do the Honeybee". http://www.helpthehoneybees.com/#tv
I hope to see academia and beekeeping associations offering more Intro and Advanced beekeeping workshops.
