Hello all,

Michigan Technological University has 4 tenure track faculty positions open, two in history, one in sociology, and one in geography.  The formal announcements follow, but the department is looking for people that will support our efforts in a broad sense, including our graduate programs in Industrial Heritage and Archaeology (PhD, MS) and Environmental and Energy Policy (PhD, MS).

TWO TENURE-TRACK POSITIONS

European History (pre-1848); World History

 

The Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Technological University seeks two tenure-track faculty members in History:

 

·      World History – specialization in a non-Western area (other than Europe and North America) and capable of teaching a survey course in World History.

·      European History – specialization in European History before 1848  and capable of teaching survey courses in European history

 

The Department of Social Sciences offers undergraduate programs in anthropology, history, and social science. The department is also home to two M.S. programs (Industrial Archaeology and Environmental Policy) and two Ph.D. programs (Industrial Heritage & Archaeology and Environmental & Energy Policy). The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in his or her field and contribute to graduate teaching and research.  Preferred areas of expertise for both positions include the early Industrial Revolution, history of technology, environmental history, social history of industry, or material-culture studies.  The normal teaching load is two courses each semester.  This is a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2012; Ph.D. expected at time of appointment.

Assistant Professor of Sociology

 

The Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Technological University seeks to hire a sociologist with research interests in one or more of the following areas: social inequality (poverty, race, gender and class), labor and industry, environment and technology, political sociology, development, and international migration. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Social Inequality, Industry and Society, Social Psychology, and other courses within their specialty, and to work within our graduate programs. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated skills in research methods and the potential for securing extramural support. The normal teaching load is two courses a term. This is a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2012; Ph.D. required.

Research interests in one or more of the following areas is are desirable: human dimensions of global change, sustainable/international development, energy, water resources, mining, hazards, nature/society. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated skills in research methods and GIS, and the potential for securing extramural support. The successful candidate should be able to teach courses such as Introduction to Human Geography, World Regional Geography, World Resources and Development, World Peoples and Environment, and other courses within their specialty, and to work within our graduate programs. The normal teaching load is two courses a term. This is a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2012; Ph.D. required.
