Laura,

We have 1 great interactive water table built by Tom Egan. We've had it
for over 7 years and it has held up wonderfully, only replacing the pump
twice. We do not staff the table, it is practically as safe as you can
get. It is placed over a concrete floor and we have two long carpet
floor mats along each side to prevent slippage.
As for maintenance, we replace the water 1-2 times a week and we add
chlorine 3-6 times a week, and the occasional pinch of baking soda.
Once a month we clean the 'scale' build-up off the posts with a vitamin
C cleaner. For a water exhibit, it's fairly easy maintenance, but it
must be regular to maintain good water quality.
It is one of the favorite exhibits for all ages at our center. The
benefits easily outweighs any costs for our staff. If you need more
specifics, you can email me off-line.

Hi,

We recently moved our Kids Corner (for kids 5 yrs and younger) from our
main
museum floor to a larger area that had housed our Education Offices. We
are
looking for different ideas to enhance the room. One of our ideas was
to
build a water table to do different activities. Does anyone have a
water
table at their museum? Did you purchase the table or have it custom
built?
What problems have you encountered with the general public and their use
of
the table? Currently the room is not staffed full time by museum
employee
or volunteers. Did you find that this was necessary? What type of
flooring
around the table works best?

Thanks for your help!!!
