This is a reminder call for abstract submissions for two sessions at the
AIMA/ASHA Conference 2012.
The conference will be held in Fremantle, Western Australia from Sunday 30
September to Wednesday 3 October 2012.
Surf and Turf
This session invites papers which investigate the interconnections between
land and sea particularly within the Australian archipelago of over 8000
islands. Papers are invited which explore maritime industries and ports,
coastal or island communities and activities or investigate the
interconnectedness of maritime and terrestrial activities and communities.
This expands to papers which explore the effect of maritime activities and
sea routes on the settlement, trade and society of Australia and its islands
at sites not normally considered under the maritime banner. The session is
extended to include similar studies from regions other than Australia.
Public Archaeology
This session invites papers from both maritime and historical archaeologists
who have as their goal dissimulating archaeological information to the
public. It invites not only papers on particular public archaeology projects
or dissimulation efforts but papers which explore the issue of public
archaeology itself. What are we doing? Where is it leading? What are the
public actually learning? What are the benefits and pitfalls? The session
also welcomes papers on issues such as funding projects, capacity building
and sustainability within the community and archaeological or community
driven research.
Please submit an abstract (maximum of 250 words) for either session directly
to [log in to unmask] by SATURDAY 30 JUNE 2012
Presentations will be 15 minutes in length, followed by a 5 minute Q&A
session
