Dear Histarchers,
Our colleague, Phil Levy, has just published a book on Ferry Farm, George
Washington's boyhood home, drawing extensively on archaeology to explore
Washington's early life and the long, ongoing process of commemorating and
memorializing the first president at FF (including the struggle with
Wal-Mart).
The book, "Where the Cherry Tree Grew:The Story of Ferry Farm, George
Washington's Boyhood Home," is available on amazon (
http://www.amazon.com/Where-Cherry-Tree-Grew-Washingtons/dp/0312641869/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1361210712&sr=1-1&keywords=Where+the+Cherry+tree+Grew
).
By publishing with a trade press, especially one as well known as
Macmillan, the readership will go well beyond archaeologists -- and those
readers will learn how archaeology really contributes something new, in
this case, to the understanding of Washington.
And, the book is very well written!
