Staff Archaeologist
West Virginia Division of Highways
Description:
WV Division of Highways has an open permanent position for a staff
archaeologist. Medical coverage, generous holiday, annual, and sick
leave, and reliable support for conferences and specialized training.
Paid overtime, with day trips accounting for most overtime and travel.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology with two years of field
experience in CRM projects;
Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as
well as part of a team;
The ability to write clear and concise reports
Desirable:
Prospects who are knowledgeable in historical archaeology
Judgment developed from exposure to a range of field situations
Supervisory experience
Duties:
Reconnaissance and identification surveys for bridge replacement and
smaller highway projects
Occasional, limited Phase 2 evaluations
Coordination with consultants on significance evaluations too involved
for in-house capability
Coordination with consultants and agencies on major transportation
projects
Lots of report writing-– we cover the entire highway system in WV
