from my experience the temperature is that inside the hive.  It gets 
quite hot here in a few weeks time  (up to at least 43C) and that is 
when we see bees abscond.    The colonies that leave are the ones where 
the sun got through the trees to shine directly on the hive.  If you 
take the box apart after the event you find that the wax comb is 
remarkably soft, touch it and it will distort.
