I'm also with Pete. Note that the sperm is homogenized PRIOR to being
stored in the spermatheca--the vast majority is discarded after
homogenization, prior to storage.
However, it appears that there are occasionally "pockets." What we
sometimes observe is a sudden "change" in the colony (color or
temperament), suggesting that the queen "hit" such a pocket.
