My bees are not in these areas now and I think the roundup is quickly taken
up by plants. I have used roundup to kill weeds in my bee yards many times.
I only was commenting on what I have seen concerning some roadsides..
To be fair perhaps the boom overlapped these low areas. However I have
noticed more areas this season. I do not believe roundup is a problem around
bees.
Henbit is not effected by roundup and the bees work and have not saw
problems. The henbit is killed when the spring sprays are applied. By then
the bees have other plants to work.
I use roundup on my farm to keep weeds down, I will say with honesty that
once you use roundup you will see a weed reduction the next year before
application.
My comments on roundup are only farmers are complaining weeds are becoming
resistant.
Many beekeepers use roundup to keep weeds down in their bee yards and have
for many years.
2.4.D has been used for years by the local coops to clear fields of
undesirable weeds ( bee plants?).
I move my hives when in close area to such spraying.
Doug at MFA will call when he knows spraying is in an area my bees are in.
The coops and farmers do not want to purposely kill bees from my experience.
However many kills happen because labels are not followed (personal
experience)
Beekeepers are not notified of spraying.
