Many years ago it was observed that the strongest predictor of health was social status in humans, Whitehall study. This article references a recent study in Nature that associates social status and the activity of the immune system in monkeys. Though we're not monkeys, we are primates and highly social with a relatively close common ancestry. These findings both support and highlight the social nature of humans and the behavior of immune systems more generally.
As food for thought: If the changes are epigenetic, it may even be inheritable to some extent.
