As Paul mentions, tonic water works as a UV light "detector". The surface of the tonic water glows with a blue light. I have done this one successfully. One suggestion - put a black background (fabric or construction paper both work well) behind the
glass containing the tonic water. Without it, the blue light doesn't show up as well since the ambient light & sunlight tend to make the fainter blue light harder to see.
