There are African American re-enactors for the Civil War but I have 
always wondered:

     (1) Was there a "Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War" group for 
African Americans in the 19th century and was it segregated from the 
general organization in the North? [We found one of the SVCW medals in 
the archaeological record in our project two years ago.]

     (2) Small numbers of slaves (free African Americans ?) served in 
the Confederate Army right at the end of the war. Are there any groups 
of their descendants who are organized or do reenactments?
