below is a letter sent to the president of the Mecklenburg Beekeepers
Association in charlotte nc.  I am forwarding on to the list to see if
anyone is aware of the use of benzene in any form of beekeeping.

I scanned the archives and got some hits but nothing positive.

Mr. McAllister,

I work for a small engineering consulting company.  We are conducting an
assessment of a property occupied by a vacant house.  There are a number
of hive boxes stacked behind the house.  We also found several empty
one-gallon size bottles labeled as having contained benzene in the crawl
space beneath the home.

Would benzene have been used in some fashion as part of a small beekeeping
operation?
