See Corning Museum webpage on solarized glass and for other links

Window glass can be difficult sometimes to distinguish from other types
of flat glass. Mirror glass can have characteristic bevelled edges or a
matt surface where the gilding was- very like surfaces on once gilded
facon de Venise vessels.
