Assistant/Associate/Full Curator of Archaeology
The Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, one of the country’s premier
museums dedicated to studying biological and cultural diversity, invites applications for
an Assistant, Associate, or Full Curator of Archaeology. The successful candidate will be
expected to pursue a vigorous research program and to curate and develop the museum’s
collection of prehistoric archaeological materials from the southeastern United States,
especially Florida. The area of research expertise is open, but should complement
current Museum strengths in historical archaeology, environmental archaeology, and
archaeology of southwest Florida, the Caribbean, and Mesoamerica. We welcome
scholars who make use of technological advances, such as GIS, and whose work will
contribute to and benefit from our strong Museum informatics infrastructure. A modest
endowment is associated with this position.
The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to university education,
fieldwork, and museum-based research. Interactions with allied departments,
particularly Anthropology, will include teaching two formal courses per year and
supervising student research. The specific teaching assignments are open, but preference
will be given to those with interest and expertise in teaching a course in Florida
Archaeology and other courses that dovetail with the interests and needs of the
Anthropology Department. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. and strong research and
collections background. The start date is open, but may begin as early as August 2010.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
