The University of California, Berkeley (Deetz' former address) still has
a commitment to Historical Archaeology.

Prof. Kent Lightfoot and a number of graduate students are
working on Native Californian--Russian-American contact issues (esp. Fort
Ross, California), as well as Russian-American Forts/outposts in Hawaii and
Alaska. Prof. Pat Kirch has ongoing research interests in the Pacific and at
least one student is doing Histarch in Australia. Other students are
working on a variety of independent projects throughout the US.
The department has just finished a search for a new Histarch professor,
who should be starting in the fall of this year.
