Welcome to Island Vis
The Symposium of the APIMONDIA will be held on island Vis from April 19
to 26, 1995. The scientific program as proposed by the Scientific
committee will be centered on the theme Bee Breeding on the Islands. The
aim of this Symposium is to carry and develop themes that have brought
together entomologists, beekeepers, agronomists, veterinarians,
ecologists, in the approach to the role of the bees to the environment
and whose importance have already emerged.
Symposium will be occasion to discuss queen breeding on the islands of
the different ecotype, concerning proposed Apimondias technology.
To discuss possibility of assistance or shortening of the selection
processes in the could areas or to diminish influences of different
strains. This will be also occasion to discuss early production, mating
designs, different ecotypes of the queens.
Symposium will be chance to discuss about beecolonies as a consequence of
climatic region, recognized as the ecotypes.
The Symposium on Vis therefore offers the opportunity to summarize the
current developments in the understanding of biology, breeding, behavior,
genetics and the most recent results obtained on the effects of honeybees
in the environment.
The study of the adaptation mechanisms of bees living in different
environmental conditions and the quantitative evaluation of their
physiological status, i.e. environmental physiology, is becoming a, tool,
for the assessment of environmental quality.
On behalf of the APIMONDIA, as well as of the Faculty of Agriculture and
Veterinary faculty University of Zagreb and Institut fur Bienenkunde and
Croatian Beekeeping Association, we are honored and pleased to invite
scientists in the field of breeding, selection, diseases, ecology and
related sciences to participate in the Symposium.
We are looking forward to meeting you on Vis in April 1995.
