The new iPads were just announced and they look to have HDMI out for all apps. I'm not sure how much that helps, but it seems better than the VGA/Component/Composite adapters.

Running it off of the Ipad would be difficult. I use Smartboards and a VGA adapter for the Ipad - it was a separate cord we had to order. IT guy isn't here today or I'd give you the details. However, it does not transfer the ability to swip it. And it only works in Keynote (powerpoint), Slide shows and videos - it does not allow you to see the Ipad's desktop and select applications.

Hi,

I think the iPad has video out, either VGA, composite or component. Part number MB128LL would get you component out, but only at 480p, so it might look a little rough on a 42" display. I understand that the type of content that you can view on an external monitor varies depending on which cable you use, and it doesn't sound straightforward unless you're willing to jailbreak your ipad. It does seem that the software part (including the swiping and onscreen keyboard) could be quite a challenge, too.

Hi, Kathy:

I would consider one of the non apple tablets that are coming out, like xoom or one of the windows 7 tablets. Mostly because the ipad has a custom adaptor, no usb or video out. Also, designing custom software for the ipad is very problematic, requiring either that you modify the ipad or do it through Apple, either of which presents problems. You could do it as a web based application, which would have the advantage of it running on different platforms,

Kathy, if you'd like to talk some more let me know.

We were considering having a 42" touch screen running off an IPad to accomplish this. Does anyone have experience with something like this?
