I do not believe that the problems for bees are occurring due to misuse of
herbicides like Roundup. In fact, their normal use enables farmers to have
virtually weed free(read honey and pollen plant free) fields.
Before these were available there were hundreds of flowering weeds in
hayfields and grain fields all summer long. Not enough to get a honey flow
from, but providing a source of nectar and pollen between the real honey
flows.
For years we got good results from bees without any pollen supplements and
very little supportive feeding. Now both seem necessary rather than just
desirable.
