Colonies that are badly stressed by varroa/viruses/nosema are highly
immuncompromised. Hitting them with a strong miticide at that time can
really kill a lot of bees. There is nothing "soft" about the soft
treatments. Their main advantages, IMHO, are that they do not leave
persistent residues and are not novel to either the bee or human
detoxification system.
