Lloyd its the same around here as well.  I'm in Southwestern Ohio.  No one sprays for pests in any of the fields.  Two sprays get used around here: glyphosate or 2-4D both are herbicides.  Spraying for ear worm only happens around here in sweet corn and BT types are replacing that (for better or worse).  Field corn losses to ear worm in our region do not justify the cost, time, equipment use to apply.

Treated seeds cost more and unless you plan on storing them there is no need to protect them.  Save every penny you can.
