Tearing off the screen can be tricky since the queen can be on the screen,
so many of us dip the queen cage in water for a second and shake it a
little to wet her so she can't fly, especially if we are installing (foolishly
IMO) in the daytime.
This is first trick that I learned from the commercial beekeeper who taught
me how to manage bees. I've never seen this in any of the standard 'how
to' books.
One caveat - warm water please, and I wouldn't dunk the queen on a
