They do some selection for non-aggresiveness with smoke in their AHBs in Mexico:

Similar selection has been successfully done in Africa.
They find their AHBs more productive and more resistant to disease/parasites. That's great for keeping hives without pesticides/drugs.
We may still not want Mexican hives in the US. If I'd need smoke to keep them calm, I would not want these bees in my yards.
