...the first time we ever saw beetles, they were clinging to the syrup can on some packages (these weren't from our regular supplier, but seemed like a "bargain" so we purchased these at the last minute).
I've seen what they can do in warmer climates (seen yards of THB's and Langs in Florida...also done a few days of cutouts in Florida)....so I know the potential damage.
Here, we had one frame slimed once that first year...and that has been the extent of the damage we have seen here in Massachusetts. Even in underpopulated hives, empty boxes of comb with pollen and cocoons, we simply don't see them. Once in a while I see one in a hive...I smoosh it if I can, and don't worry about it if it hides.
