/Reflecting on Practice/ is a professional development program developed
by University of California, Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science for
educators working in informal science settings--museums, science
centers, aquariums, afterschool programs, nature centers, etc. This
nationally field-tested program is focused on connecting everyday
practice to research and theory on learning and teaching science. It
provides the opportunity and a process for engaging the education staff
at your institution in talking about the teaching choices they make in
program design and implementation, and how those choices connect to
their beliefs about how people (and children) learn. /Reflecting on
Practice/ will help you:

      * Build a common language among your staff for talking about
        learning and teaching;
      * Provide structured opportunities for your staff to reflect on
        and develop their practice; and
      * Build the overall sense of pride and professionalism of your
        teaching team.

Join the /Reflecting on Practice/ community and engage with educators
from over 18 institutions that have implemented the program, including
Brookfield Zoo, Monterey Bay Aquarium, NySci, Bay Area Discovery Museum,
OMSI, California Academy of Sciences, Aquarium of the Pacific, and many
others.

This *Coaching Workshop* introduces you to the program, which you in
turn implement with your staff at your institution. The Workshop is
designed for managers &/or coordinators at an informal science education
institution who plan to implement /Reflecting on Practice/ for educators
at their own institution. Two educators from an institution participate
in the workshop. During this 3-day workshop we will provide you with:

  * Opportunities to experience each of the sessions in the program;
  * A complete curriculum guide (written curriculum and PowerPoints) and
    implementation schedule;
  * Connect with other informal science educators;
  * Help with customizing the implementation schedule for your
    institution and needs.

Following the workshop, we will provide ongoing technical assistance to
ensure successful implementation of the program.

Contact Lynn Tran ([log in to unmask]) if you have any questions. We
look forward to seeing you in December.
