Hi Diana. 

The Ontario Science Centre has been offering this type of program since 2003. Over the years, we have conducted more than 20 studies with researchers from more than a dozen institutions, including the University of Toronto and the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. To date, more than 25,000 OSC visitors have participated as subjects in a variety of studies ranging from synesthesia, linguistics,
cognition, memory, physiology, genetics, behavior and even long term love!

One of the most recent studies with Sick Kids (Spit for Science) saw more than 17,000+ volunteers. The data set now represents one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive databases of behavioral and cognitive data for children.

I've shared this work at ASTC (2005), CASC (2009) and AAAS (2006) conferences with representatives from the Science Museum of London and the Marian Koshland Science Museum who were exploring similar programs. I'd be really interested in finding out more about what's happening at NEMO.
