I agree with Erich. We here at Arizona Science Center never question
another science centers card as a matter of service to that science
center. If the customer cannot produce one, we try to help facilitate
communication with said science center to verify the guest's membership
so they may enter. We are in the service industry, and that should never
be forgotten.

I think you have enough feed back now to see that membership cards
without a name, expiration date and the ASTC logo would be a BIG
problem. But I am curious as to your thinking in regards to the
"generic" style bar code card? What do you see as the pros of those
cards versus individually printed cards with names and expiration info?

As far as the "door policy" of museums goes the ones who are smart,
instruct their staff to "when in doubt" let them in. As mentioned it
makes for the best relationship with the visitor at minimal cost. I
have worked at museums where this was not always the case. When a
member showed up without a new card and the staff had to check the data
base and then the computer was down, or not updated because membership
staff worked part time, or it was grandma not mom, and on and on. I've
been in museum lines where someone in front is being given the #*%!
probe before they get in. It really makes for a lousy experience.

The old axiom "the customer is always right" still goes a long way.
(even when they are flaming idiots...)

My 2 cents
