I thought it was a toy cannon, too, but the "trunnions"-- the knobs-- are in the wrong place. Might not matter with a toy, of course, but it doesn't "look" right. But if it's not a toy cannon, I have no clue what else it might be.

Asunto: another mystery object
Thanks to those who responded to my "curtain finial". I'm confident that's what it is...now I have another object from the same deposit. It is clear glass, and looks like a handle with two knobs on one end (like it is meant to be inserted into something and the knobs keep it from coming out??). The end opposite the knobs is broken.
