Hello,
On the Society for Historical Archaeology Blog this week, the Technology Committee is sponsoring a week of posts focusing on Underwater Archaeology and how underwater archaeologists use technology to engage the public.
Ben Ford introduces the week, talking about how public archaeology is integral to the discipline and gives an overview of the four blog posts. http://ow.ly/dPJYd
T. Kurt Knoerl from the Museum of Underwater Archaeology (MUA) talks about using the internet to engage the public, and how it can be beneficial in engaging archaeologists in collaborative projects. http://ow.ly/dPK2B
Kimberly Faulk from Geoscience Earth and Marine Services, and Daniel Warren, from C & C Technologies, talk about their work with the Okeanos Explorer in the Gulf of Mexico and how they used technology to set up a direct connection with other scientists and the public. http://ow.ly/dPK5E
Peter Fix, from the Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation, discusses his work with conserving an entire shipwreck so the public can see what archaeologists see without getting wet. http://ow.ly/dPK5E
Finally, Annalies Corbin and Sheli O. Smith, from the PAST foundation, talk about the need for public engagement in archaeology and what the future may look like for the discipline and public engagement. http://ow.ly/dPKch
Check out the blog, join in on the conversation, and participate in the excitement going on at the SHA Blog right now!
