hi everyone,
I am Laura Seifert, historical archaeologist with at least one foot in the
museum world. Most of my work has been at historic sites and museums (Mount
Vernon, Historic St. Mary's City, Coastal Heritage Society in Savannah). I
have my BA from Syracuse and an MA from East Carolina U, both in
anthropology. My thesis was at Foscue Plantation, NC, where I taught field
schools and developed a management plan for the plantation, which includes
a c. 1825 house. Subsequent ECU grad students have continued work there.
(my thesis was actually read more by more than my committee!)
I am currently in Savannah, GA, where I am teaching anthro and archaeology
at Armstrong Atlantic State University and doing interpretation and
programming at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace (founder of the Girl
Scouts). I am also Chairperson of a fairly new local group, Savannah
Heritage Emergency Response (SHER). SHER joins museums and historic folks
and emergency managers/firefighters, etc to be better prepared for
disasters (http://sheronline.info/).
Laura
