How come? Archaeologists often wait until all the field work is complete and the area is backfilled or protected before making a news release in order to prevent looting, especially if it is a high-profile project such as this.

While this may be the "official announcement", the fact that they have
recovered "500,000" artifacts means they've been at this for a while.
And when I visited in May they made no secret that they had found the
foundations, in fact they said they had found the house.
